Kochi: While officials of the Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) had a busy day reviewing the security arrangements as a result of the bomb threat, all flights operated as usual on Friday.
“As many as 35 domestic flights landed and 30 took off from the airport. Two flights were cancelled - Spice Jet to Chennai (SG 3264) and the Air India flight to Delhi (AI 478) - but this had nothing to do with the bomb threat,” said an airport official.
International flights too remained unaffected with 16 landing and 28 departing from the airport on Friday as scheduled. An Air India official, when contacted, said, “ Our security checks are always 100 per cent. Everything was normal today.”
But with security being tight, over 30 personnel from the Kerala police were deployed outside the airport terminal. “We’ve been divided into three groups and deployed at the domestic and international entry points as well as the cargo side. All vehicles, including that of airline officials and companies, are being searched. Our bomb squad is also here,” said Nedumbassery sub- inspector, Jai Prasad, advising passengers to get to the airport early due to the heightened security checks that will remain in place over the next two days.
