Council for Science and Tech incumbent VP’s tenure ends on Oct.25
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A search committee headed by Planning Board Vice Chairman K M Chandrashekhar has been constituted to finalise probables for the post of executive vice president of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment. The tenure of incumbent Dr V N Rajashekharan Pillai ends on October 25.
The other members of the search committee are Director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Biotechnology Prof Radhakrishna Pillai, Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment former executive vice president Dr Muthunayakam and former secretary of department of science and technology T Ramaswamy .
The decision to appoint search committee comes close on the heels of KPCC president V M Sudheeran opposing extension to Dr Rajashekharan Pillai.
Additional source for Kollam from Kallada River: Cabinet gave administrative sanction for Rs 14.11 crore drinking water scheme in Kollam district. As part of the project a new source would be developed at Kallada river for providing drinking water to city. The decision has been taken in the wake of concerns raised about conservation of Sasthamcotta Lake, the only source of drinking water for Kollam.
Drinking water schemes worth Rs 6.76 crore and Rs 5.5 crore were also sanctioned for Payyannur and Kalpetta municipalities respectively.
ISRO case: When asked about the court direction to initiate action against the investigating officers held guilty by CBI, the chief minister said that the government would examine the verdict and take further decision. “UDF Government's policy is to respect court decisions whether it is in favour or against us.''
On allegations that the government had deliberately delayed action against officials, he said the government could only take decisions considering the merits of each case.
When asked whether it was appropriate for Sibi Mathews to continue as CIC, Chandy shot back, “why don't you put this question to those who appointed him?"
Other decisions
The Government has decided not to levy toll on bridges built at an expense of Rs 5 crore to Rs 10 crore. Earlier, the decisoin was applicable to bridges upto Rs 5 crore.
Term extended: The term of Justice Sivarajan Commission looking into Solar case extended by six months.
Prize: Rs 2 lakh cash prize for MSP School for becoming runner up in the Subrato Cup International Football tournament.
Differently-abled: Backlog of vacancies under physically challenged and sports quota to be filled up at the earliest.
One time settlement: Cabinet extended the one time settlement scheme of the Housing Board to 31.12.2014. The last date of the scheme had ended on June 30,2014.
