Telangana Congress asks Governor to ensure relief to farmers in state

'Its pathetic that neither CM nor his Cabinet is willing to acknowledge farmers' deaths'

Hyderabad: A delegation of Telangana Congress on Tuesday met Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and urged him to intervene immediately to provide relief to farmers facing several problems due to the government’s failure to resolve the problems.

The delegation, led by TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, Leaders of Opposition in Legislative Assembly and Council K. Jana Reddy and D. Srinivas along with party leaders and legislators made a representation to the Governor on the plight of farmers in Telangana state including on the increasing rate of suicides, non-supply of power to agriculture, non-waiver of farm loans, non-procurement of farm produce etc.

Congress leaders informed the Governor that during their regime they had established a mechanism for speedier responses to suicides by farmers and proper and full compensation to the distressed families, but TRS government has done nothing in this regard despite more than 250 suicides by farmers in the last four months.

“It is pathetic that neither the Chief Minister nor his Cabinet colleagues are willing to even acknowledge the deaths of the farmers and console their families. It’s total failure to offer assurance and hope to the farmers that they will be rescue from the crisis,” the delegation told the Governor. Heavy debts, drought, lack of fresh crop loans from banks, power cuts are reasons leading to the suicides of more than 250 farmers, they alleged.
