Stay on skating association holding championship

Earlier Anna University did not accept the certificates issued by TNRSA

Chennai: The Madras high court has restrained the president and secretary of the Tamil Nadu Roller Skating Association (TNRSA) from conducting the 24th Tamil Nadu state roller skating championship 2014, to be held between October 25 and October 29, in violation or in contravention of the interim orders passed on September 9, and the national championship event for 2014 shall be conducted only after the state championship/state selection by them.

Justice V. Ramasubramanian granted the interim injunction and posted to November 3 further hearing of the contempt petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Skaters Parents Association by its secretary Arumugam, which sought to punish C. Kasturi Raj and Chockalingam, president and secretary of TNRSA.

According to the petitioner, TNRSA was registered under the Societies Registration Act but was not listed in the recognised sports list under the TN Olympic Association and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu.

In 2012-13, Anna University did not accept the certificates issued by TNRSA under the eminent sportsperson quota. TNRSA did not do anything about this and left the parents to take the matter to court, he added.

He said roller skating was a valuable sport and parents had not only contributed heavy amounts, students have also spent time and energy.

If TNRSA and 11 districts were allowed to proceed with the events without renewing their licences, the petitioner and skaters would be adversely affected. The TNRSA had chosen not to comply with the interim order of the court.

Hence, he filed the present contempt petition, he added.
