Rajnath Singh's visit to Mumbai deferred

BJP secured 122 seats in the 288-member Assembly

Mumbai: The visit of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who was to attend a crucial BJP meeting on Monday, has been deferred.

"The new date would be announced later," Leader of Opposition in Legislative Council Vinod Tawde said.

"Newly elected BJP legislators will meet at the state BJP office this afternoon and celebrate our victory," he said. Singh was to travel to Mumbai today to decide on who will lead the BJP government in Maharashtra.

"I am going to Maharashtra tomorrow to decide on BJP legislature party leader," Singh had told reporters yesterday.

BJP has appointed Singh and senior leader J P Nadda as central observers to choose legislature party leader, as decided by the BJP Parliamentary Party.

BJP secured 122 seats in the 288-member Assembly, well short of absolute majority. NCP has offered outside support, but the party is yet to take a call on it.

Former ally Shiv Sena has said it is waiting for BJP to make the first move towards a possible reconciliation.
