Fire at cracker factory in East Godavari in Andhra Pradesh, 12 dead

Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu expressed grief over the death of people involved

Hyderabad: Twelve persons were charred to death and five others suffered serious burn injuries in a mishap at a firecracker manufacturing facility in U Kotthapalli police station limits of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R P Thakur said, "An accidental fire took place in a firecracker manufacturing unit at Uppada Kothapalli. 12 persons have been declared dead. Fire department is trying to control the fire. All our officers are attending the rescue work."

Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu has expressed grief over the death of 12 persons. He has ordered district collector Neetu Prasad to take measures to put off the fire.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Pithapuram SI of police, Sanyasi Naidu who is at the spot carrying out rescue operations at the scene said, “Fire broke out in the cracker manufacturing shop of Vakathippa of U Kothapalli in East Godavari. We have shifted 7 injured to hospital. The scene is chaotic.”

Two fire vehicles were pressed into service to put off the fire. Police said the manufacturing facility has license and mishap took place due to negligence while manufacturing. Injured were shifted to Kakinada government hospital.
