Not waiting to clean up

Members of the NGO Yuvatha are not waiting to be nominated to take up the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

Hyderabad: Ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, many celebrities have come forward to promote the cause, pledge for a cleaner India and nominate others for the same. However, a group of youngsters from the NGO Yuvatha do not want to wait till somebody nominates them.

Recently, they cleaned the Narayanguda bus stop, which had turned into a dump yard and those waiting for the bus had to stand without a shelter, 100 meters away.

“We wanted people to realise that they should take the initiative and not wait for the government to clean all the places,” says the founder of Yuvatha, Saketh Kothamasu.

“After our Prime Minister pledged for a clean India, we thought that not only celebrities, we, the common man should also take it forward and try to keep our surroundings clean. And we did not have to wait for someone to nominate us before getting started,” adds the director of the NGO, Saawan Kabalavai.

“During our last clean-up drive, two people who were passing by asked if they could join us and help. It was good to see that we could inspire somebody to take it up,” says a volunteer, Ankit Pansari.

The volunteers, who include students and working professionals, say that it isn’t a one-time show and they plan to join hands and do it on Sundays.
“Our next location for clean up would be the subway near RTC crossroads, which has turned into a dump yard,” adds Saawan.
