Police pledges solidarity with targeted officials

Associations promised the police fraternity all legal assistance, right up to SC
Kozhikode: The Kerala Police Association and Kerala Police Officers’ Association Kannur district units jointly protested against the failure of the Government in preventing Opposition politicians from targeting officials probing political murders in Kannur district and pledged all support to the officials. The two bodies expressed solidarity with police officers, who are at the receiving end for discharging their official duties. Officials, who investigated TP Chandrasekharan murder and now RSS leader Kathirur Manoj probe are being targeted.
Police officials KP Shoukkathali, Josey Cheriyan and Santhosh Kumar, who had investigated the TP murder, and the latter two probing Manoj case, were being harassed by CPM leadership. CPM leaders P Jayarajan and MV Jayarajan had publicly threatened them of dire consequences several times.
The associations promised the police fraternity all legal assistance, right up to the Supreme Court, if they are implicated in cases. The threat to personal lives would drain out the morale of the force.
SIT quizzes Kunhananthan
The special investigation team probing the larger conspiracy behind T.P. Chandrasekharan murder interrogated K.P. Kunhananthan, convicted of murder, at Kannur central prison. The six-member team, led by SP V.K. Akbar, quizzed Kunhananthan for more than two hours. He was questioned on the reported role of certain CPM leaders and about those who had directed him to hire the assassins.
Kunhananthan was the mastermind who had links with both the leaders and gangsters in the murder, it was alleged. When the leaders managed to remain behind the curtain, the role of Kunhananthan in executing the crime was established by the investigation during the trial.CPM leaders used to make a beeline to the prison to pacify Kunhananthan, known to be the key to many serial murders in Kannur.
