Vijayawada: Cyclone Hudhud has turned into a boon for unscrupulous realtors in Krishna and Guntur districts as a majority of the officials are busy in cyclone relief operations and no one is checking the illegal layouts.
In the absence of official machinery, realtors are developing layouts in VGTM-UDA limits though the VUDA stopped sanctioning layouts in the past one month.
The realtors are converting agricultural land into real estate ventures by filling the irrigation channels without necessary permission from the VGTMUDA.
UDA officials had earlier removed the marking stones in a 100 such unauthorised layouts, but now, the realtors are back at work due to the absence of officials.
According to sources, some politicians are exerting pressure on the officials in support of realtors.
