Anna Hazare takes on Modi government on black money

Hazare said he will go on an agitation if it fails to bring back black money
Mumbai: Social activist and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has threatened to launch an agitation if the Narendra Modi government does not take steps to bring back the black money of Indians stashed away abroad.
This comes in the wake of a Union government affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court that all information on black money hidden abroad cannot be disclosed. Mr Hazare on Saturday wrote a letter to Mr Modi, criticising him for an unstable policy. “Bringing back black money is an important issue before the nation. If needed, I won’t keep from organising an agitation on the matter,” said the letter.
Furthermore, he reminded Mr Modi of the promise he had made during the Lok Sabha elections and voiced his displeasure over the affidavit submitted to the apex court that all information on black money received from countries with which India had a Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement could not be disclosed.
“If there were technical issues pertaining to bringing back the money, you should have thought about it before assuring people during the election campaign. Was it just an election issue as during the five months of your regime at the Centre, no step has been taken either to bring back the black money or appoint the Lokpal. The people of India have reposed faith in you and they have hope that you will bring back the black money and ultimately, inflation will be reined in and corruption will end. Even you have instituted a Special Investigation Team for the same and hence the nation has hopes from you,” said Mr Hazare.
“I have undertaken many agitations in 35 years. They were not against any party or individual but for the benefit of the society and country. You (Mr Modi) have vast experience in power. I am a fakir and don’t have any wealth. I will live and die for the country,” he added.
