Students flaunt their exotic pets

The event was aimed at spreading awareness about the environment
Kochi: Cocker Spanish dog, African Cockatiel bird and Persian cats were among the star attractions during “Pets’ Day” celebrated by Global Public School, Thiruvaniyoor, on Friday.
“Nearly 100 pre-primary students brought their pets on the occasion. The pets included rats, rabbits, dogs, calves, lambs, goats, cats, birds and fish species. The event was aimed at spreading awareness about the environment and an insight into how animals and birds can be part of our family,” said Lakshmi Ramachandran, Dean.
Exotic dog breeds German Shorthaired Pointer and Cocker Spanish got the loudest applause from the audience. In an interactive session, the students were happy to share their experiences with pets.
“The Persian cat is a quiet cat. Though placid in nature, it adapts quite well to apartment life,” said Nandini Venugopal, a Class 3 student.
Through various activities throughout the day, the children got to know about pets, their needs, habitat, peculiarities, and habits.
“There were nearly a 100 adorable pets and it was a wonderful experience. Pets can have a profound impact on the psychological and intellectual development of children, which is why setting aside a designated day as "pet day" can be extremely beneficial to students and teachers alike,” the Dean said.‘
