They don’t wait for help

JR Nagar residents work to regain their colony’s glory

Visakhapatnam: JR Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association (JRNRWA) was one of the greenest and well maintained residential localities in the city.

As the colony had lush green cover, it was not surprising that the colony witnessed much devastation due to cyclone Hudhud and now represents a grave picture as its roads have been left clogged with uprooted trees, broken branches and fallen electric poles.

However, the colony’s residents have not lost their will to fight against odds and have decided to bring back their colony’s lost glory.

Self-help is the best help is what the residents of Jagannatha Raju Nagar’s residents have always believed in. It is what changed the colony from being a risky locality with no streetlights, poor civic amenities, to one with functioning lights, citizen watch, street signboards, free flowing drains and even a small park.

While uprooted trees are being removed by the workers appointed by the government, the colony residents have decided to join in and work towards getting their colony rid of the green debris clogging their colony streets.

JRNRWA, president, Dr K.S.R. Murty said, “We have always believed that just relying on government is wrong and rather we should work with the government if we want change. Many residents of the colony, from schoolchildren to senior citizens took brooms and garbage cans to clean the streets off the leaves, branches and twigs. We are sure that with the combined efforts we will make the colony clean and green again soon.”
