The increase in number of voters is a normal phenomenon every year
Coimbatore: More than 60,000 new voters have been added to the electorate in the newly released draft rolls in Coimbatore district. In the electoral rolls released on January 11, there were a total of 25,35,378 voters.
That number has now increased to 26,01,838 voters now, which shows a significant rise of 66,460 voters.
The male electorate has increased by 31,509 from 12,70,084 to 13,01,593 this time. The female electorate has also seen a steep increase from 12,65,268 to 13,00,164 voters within a span of around eight months. The transgender voters have risen from 26 to 81.
"The increase in number of voters is a normal phenomenon every year. This time, too, there has been an increase in the electorate, which could be attributed to awareness campaigns undertaken by the election commission and government departments among the public," said a district administration official.
