No text of law in force since 1841

Commission has asked the Centre to start process of repealing archaic laws
New Delhi: With at least six laws in force for nearly two centuries, one of them enacted way back in 1841 but its text not available with any government department, the Law Commission of India has recommended to the government that they should be scrapped.
In its second interim report submitted to the government on Tuesday on laws which need to be repealed immediately, the Commission has asked the Centre to start process of repealing archaic laws.
With most of these dealing with land revenue which is a state subject, the Commission has asked the Centre to take up the matter with states. One of the laws recommended to be scrapped is the Bengal Land Revenue Sales Act, 1841.
“The text of this Act is not available on the law ministry’s website, or with any other readily available source, an indication that it is not in use. Neither are there any other documented instances where this Act has been used in the last few decades. This Act should therefore be repealed,” it said.
