Bengaluru: The 38-day protest near Town Hall against land grabbing and demanding implementation of Land Grabbing Prohibition Act 2007, headed by freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy, will come to an end after a victory celebration on Thursday.
The protesters said the dharna has yielded positive results with reports that the President has signed the Act and the state government has ordered the appointment of two new deputy commissioners to work independently on land grabbing cases.
Former legislator A.T. Ramaswamy, who investigated and prepared a report on land grabbing cases and who was also a part of the agitation, said, “The initial action of the government indicates that land grabbing cases will be addressed duly. With the trust that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will stand by his promise, we will temporarily withdraw the dharna on Thursday and hold victory celebrations by forming a human chain at 1 pm.”
The protesters, however, will be vigilant. Activists of various organisations, under the guidance of Mr Doreswamy, will form vigilance teams to ensure that the DCs will be appointed soon and the work on reclaiming and protecting the land from grabbers will proceed in an ethical and timely manner, he added.
