Army ‘concerned’ over IS flag in Jammu and Kashmir

ISIS capable of attracting a large number of volunteers, warned Lt Gen Subrata Saha

Srinagar: The waving of IS flags in Kashmir is a matter of concern and “deserves the highest attention of the security agencies” so that the Valley youth are prevented from being lured into the ranks of the jihadist organisation, said a top Army official.

The comments by the General Officer Commanding of the Army’s 15 Corps, Lt Gen. Subrata Saha, come a day after the CM rubbished the appearance of the flags in the Valley as an act of “some idiots”.

Lt Gen. Saha, while noting that the ability of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria to attract a large number of volunteers was a cause of worry, said that concerted efforts have to be made to secure the “right to prosperity” of the youth in the Valley if they were to be kept away from the path of terror. “The emergence of the IS flags merits concern and deserves the highest attention of the security agencies to prevent the youth from getting lured into IS,” said Mr Saha.
