‘BJP to emerge as largest party’

Says CID report, though it may not get majority

Mumbai: The latest Maharashtra CID report has predicted that the BJP is set to emerge the single largest party in the state Assembly polls though it may fall short of a majority of 145 seats by 35 to 21 seats.

The Shiv Sena may be the second-largest party. However, in half of the constituencies, the margin of victory would be less than 5,000, which is why the CID report has kept a margin of error of around 25 seats.

Meanwhile, claiming that BJP will get full majority in Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana, Union minister Thawarchand Gehlot said the saffron party will not need any political party’s support to form governments in the two states that are going to polls on Wednesday. “There is no question of taking support of any party as we are going to get the full majority in these elections,” he said.
