20-km-long optic fibre cable of BSNL damaged in city
Visakhapatnam: Communication network in and around the city seems to be a herculean job for service providers since around 20-km-long Optic Fiber Cable (OFC) for BSNL received damages and micro inks based on wireless system of other providers have also totally collapsed due to destructive winds.
The heavy winds at a speed of 210 kmph thunderstruck the city devastating entire communication network of various service providers on Sunday. A 40-mt long tower and 15 other towers of BSNL those set up on buildings at various places were damaged.
The communication system has been paralysed with annihilation of communication towers located in and around the city. Lack of power and subsequent shortage of diesel also turned out to be a difficulty even for temporary restoration. Parent stations, antennas received damages severely.
There are around 263 sites in the city and only 43 have been working.Officials said they had initially one-month act-ion plan to restore entire communication network in the district and may possibly extend depending on the situation. CM who reviewed the situation warned of action against operators who fail to restore network immediately.
