Camaraderie after the storm

Youth turn good Samaritans, help clear debris

Visakhapatnam: While the cyclone Hudhud ripped the city apart, its dwellers came together on Monday in their strife towards bringing back life to normalcy in the city.

Examples of camaraderie and brotherhood were visible at various places across the city as people came together to clear the city streets off the debris clogging them.

At many places in the city people could be seen providing a helping hand to each other, whether it be trying to pull away huge branches of trees fallen on people’s vehicles and doorsteps or trying to get someone’s two-wheeler through the gap beneath an uprooted tree.

While uprooted trees clogged colony streets as well as main roads in the city, some people chose not to wait for the government workers to come and chop off the trees. Rather, they went ahead and got the job done by themselves.

In one such example in the Sector 6 of MVP Colony, a group of six to seven young men got onto the streets on Monday morning with an aim of helping people reach their destinations with at least no hurdle in their street.

One of the members in the group caught hold of an axe from someone while one got himself a meat chopping knife and started chopping off branches of uprooted trees to make way for people and vehicles, while the other youngsters cleared the green rubble.

One of the youngsters, said, “We faced the cyclone together and we felt that we should also try to get back to normal life together.
