Will never return to Samajwadi Party: Beni Prasad Varma

It took him several years to take the decision to leave the Samajwadi Party

Lucknow: Former Union minister Beni Prasad Varma, on Sunday, said that he would not return to the Samajwadi Party even if the party agrees to make him the Chief Minister.

“There are rumours floating around that I am being promised a Rajya Sabha seat by SP unit. I want to clarify that I will never go back to the party. Rajya Sabha is a small offer, even if they make me the chief minister, I will not leave the Congress,” he said on Sunday.

Mr Varma said that he practiced the politics of values and it took him several years to take the decision to leave the Samajwadi Party.

“I do not find it comfortable to uproot myself from one place to another and when I could not bear the situation in SP, I told Mr Mulayam Singh and then quit the party. The Congress has given me great respect and I will never quit the party,” he reiterated.

Asked who was responsible for spreading rumors about his joining the Samajwadi Party, Mr Varma said, “There are some in the Samajwadi Party who are feeling suffocated there and keep coming to me on one pretext or the other. There are also some in the Congress who want me out because I am too straight-forward for their liking. Both these groups keep fueling rumors about me.”
