Navigation satellite to take off on October 16

It is one of the seven satellites Isro plans to put in place

Nellore: The countdown for the launch of the PSLV-C26/IRNSS-1C mission will begin at 6.32 am on Monday and the launch will take place after a 67-hour countdown at 1.32 am on Thursday, on October 16 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR, Sriharikota.

The decision to go ahead with the schedule fixed for October 9 was taken by the Mission Readiness Review Committee and Launch Authorisation Board on Monday after Isro scientists conducted the launch rehearsal successfully during the early hours of Sunday.

Isro chairman Dr K. Radhakrishnan also participated in the meeting through video conference from Bengaluru.

The launch, which was originally scheduled for October 10, was postponed due to a snag in the telemetry system during the MRR meeting held on October 6. PSLV-C26 will carry the 1,425-kg Indian Navigation Satellite IRNSS-1C.

It is one of the seven satellites Isro plans to put in place. The Indian Regional Navigational System, IRNSS-1C is the third in the series and the first two IRNSS-1A and 1B were launched in July 2013 and April 2014 respectively.
