Control rooms set up in Guntur district

Krishna, Guntur officials gear up to face Hudhud’s wrath

Guntur/Machilipatnam: As many as 20 control rooms were set up in mandals along the coast in Guntur district in view of cyclone Hudhud.

Fishing boats, which ventured into the sea, have returned and are anchored at Nizampatnam harbour.

Guntur district joint-collector Ch. Sridhar visited Bapatla, Nizampatnam and other seacoast areas to oversee the preparations. He revealed that all leaves to officials have been cancelled and all departments are gearing up to face the cyclone.

Mr Sridhar said that a control room (Ph. No. 08644-223800) was opened in Tenali.

Meanwhile, Krishna district collector M. Raghunandana Rao said that a control room has been set up at the collectorate with toll-free No. 1077 and Ph. No. 08672-252572.

Mr Raghunandana Rao said that similar control rooms were set up and special officers appointed in coastal mandals, including Krittivennue, Bantumilli, Mopidevi, Avanigadda, Nagayalanka and Koduru.

The collector said 130 coastal villages have been identified as being in the path of the cyclone and 78 relief camps were set up to shift the people, if necessary.

He said special teams have been formed to assess the situation in coastal villages. Steps have been taken to supply drinking water and restore power supply, Mr RaghunandanaRao said.
