Doctor cheats couple, held

Gurumurthy has been accused of collecting money from a couple who had no children

BENGALURU: Gurumurthy K.T., Founder and Managing Director of Shrushti Global Medicare & Research Foundation, is in trouble again with the Central Crime Branch police arresting him on criminal charges of kidnapping, human trafficking for the sale of a newborn and other allegations.

Gurumurthy has been accused of collecting money from a couple who had no children, promising them a baby through surrogacy and giving them some other baby, who is a victim of human trafficking.

The police said that Dhan Bosco, a resident of Sanjeevininagar near Moodalapalya and a security guard, and his wife Sarala Devi had no children, though they were married for seven years.

In March 2008, they approached Gurumurthy, who promised them that he would arrange a surrogate mother. He also allegedly collected Rs 3.5 lakh and Mr Bosco’s semen. Within seven months, on October 23, 2008, Gurumurthy called Mr Bosco and told him that a girl child was born to him from the surrogate mother.

“When Mr Bosco asked him how was it possible within seven months, Gurumurthy allegedly replied that ‘If you don’t want the baby it’s OK, but you won’t be getting your money back’.

The couple, however, got the baby and started raising it despite doubts that it was not born out of Mr Bosco’s semen. The growth of the kid was not normal and she did not start talking even after five years. When asked, Gurumurthy allegedly started threatening the couple,” the police said.

The couple were worried as the child was abnormal and a depressed Sarala passed away in August. The child’s condition worsened and Mr Bosco doubted that he may not be the child’s biological father.

He approached a lab in Hyderabad last month to get a DNA test which clarified that Mr Bosco was not the biological father of the child, the police explained.

“Aggrieved, Mr Bosco approached the police and filed a complaint against Gurumurthy, who has been arrested. He has been booked for cheating, kidnapping and trafficking, threatening and criminal intimidation,” the police said.

A case has been registered in Nandini Layout police station in this connection. The police suspect that Gurumurthy could be involved in many such cases of child kidnapping and selling them to couples.

Gurumurhty was arrested in January for allegedly cheating several people by taking money from them after promising to arrange IVF treatment and surrogate mothers for them.
