Couple attacked, robbed in farm

The gang entered the farmhouse on Friday between 12 midnight and 1 am

Hyderabad: Robbers attacked an old couple at a farmhouse in Srinagar and fled with cash and gold. The victims were tied up by the attackers. The six-member gang armed with knives and sticks barged into their house and threatened to kill them. The gang came in a four-wheeler and a two-wheeler.

The old couple Venkateshwara Rao, 66, and Dhanalaxmi, 55, belong to Kothapalli in AP’s East Godavari district and is staying with their son, the watchman of the farmhouse. However, at the time of the incident, the couple was alone in the house.

The gang entered the farmhouse on Friday between 12 midnight and 1 am. They first attacked the dog Atta which guards the farmhouse. Police said the gang knocked on the door of the room of Venkateshwara Rao, his wife and their three-year-old granddaughter.

As soon as he opened the door they attacked him with sticks on the head. After he fell down they asked his wife to hand over valuables. When she refused they attacked her with a knife and injured her.

The gang then broke open a container and took away Rs 40,000. The money was saved up by the couple in the last two years. They also took Dhanalaxmi’s ornaments.

Revealing that they also demanded the keys of the farmhouse Venkateshwara said the gangsters spoke in Telugu and Hindi. He said they did not harm their granddaughter.

“Later, I went to the adjacent farmhouse and alerted the watchman. He called 100 and took us to hospital,” Mr Venkateshwara said. The couple was discharged in the afternoon. The farmhouse belongs to one Ananthsena Reddy.

Based on a complaint cops booked a case. Sources said the farmhouse belongs to one Ananthsena Reddy.
