West Indies threaten to boycott series over pay

Players reportedly felt ‘hoodwinked’ by Wipa president Wavell Hinds
Kochi: Talk swirled just hours ahead of the opening game of the five-match Micromax Cup ODI series of a threatened boycott by the West Indies to protest a controversial pay structure reportedly agreed to between the West Indies Players Association and the West Indies Cricket Board in September.
Players reportedly felt ‘hoodwinked’ by Wipa president Wavell Hinds who allegedly did not seek a consensus before finalising their revised salaries with the Board.
It is understood team captain Dwayne Bravo expressed the discontent of his players to the WIPA and had hinted a possible withdrawal of at least certain players from the series.
There was a rehearsal of the ensuing drama on the eve of the match as the West Indies team did not practice and even skipped the customary trophy unveiling ceremony without citing reasons. Bravo had also refused to attend the mandatory pre-match press conference.
