Telangana treads with care on projects

KCR wants to avoid public unrest while dealing with issues like land acquisition

Khammam: The Telangana state government is taking all possible care before acquiring lands for new projects.

The officials dealing the projects have been asked to adopt a “no-nonsense” approach so that the projects can be taken without objections from any quarters.

The state government is keen to avoid incidents like the one at Kakarapalli of Srikakulam district, where locals opposed the setting up of a power plant there. That issue had shaken the previous government.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao wants to avoid public unrest while dealing with issues like land acquisition, compensation and pollution control, the officials said.

Such restraint was shown by the government in Khammam district in regard to the expansion of Kothagudem Thermal Power Plant. The local MLA was asked to be involved in dealing the issues of public concern like pollution control and land acquisition.

Jalagam Venkata Rao addressed the public hearing and tried his best to convince the locals about the benefits of the project’s expansion.

Likewise, the Chief Minister called the Pinapaka MLA P. Venkateswarlu and explained about the 1,080 MW power plant at Manuguru.

The Chief Minister tried to gauge the mood of the people there over the project and the price of land.

He also asked the MLA to meet the collector and give his views on the project.
