Farmers oppose mining

Farmers staged a dharna at the gram panchayat office on Sunday
Karimnagar: Farmers opposed illegal transportation of sand from a rivulet on the outskirts of Padira village of Yellareddypet mandal. They staged a dharna at the gram panchayat office on Sunday. They said transportation of sand was affecting groundwater level which in turn was damaging their crops.
Bugga Reddy, a farmer, said sand was extensively being transported from Manair rivulet. “Consequently, the groundwater level is plunging and our crops are withering,” he explained. They alleged that one Malla Reddy, brother of Padira sarpanch was behind the illegal activity. They accused him of threatening to kill them if they obstructed mining.
