DMK to convene district secretaries meet on October 8

Meeting to discuss 'deteriorating' law and order situation after Jayalalithaa's arrest

Chennai: Two days after it urged Governor K Rosaiah to "implement" the rule of law in Tamil Nadu, the DMK has convened a meeting of its District Secretaries on October 8 to discuss the "deteriorating" law and order situation.

The meeting, to be chaired by DMK president M Karunanidhi, would be held at the party headquarters here to discuss the "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state, party general secretary K Anbazhagan said in a statement on Sunday.

The DMK had on October 3 urged Rosaiah to direct the government to "act in accordance with law" and take action against the ruling partymen, who had "violated the law".

After the jailing of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa, ministers and party office-bearers engaged in various "unlawful" agitations, DMK alleged and referred to burning of buses and claimed that their party offices were attacked.

Protests are continuing across Tamil Nadu demanding the release of Jayalalithaa, after she was convicted and sentenced to four years imprisonment by a Special Court in Bangalore in a disproportionate assets case on September 27.
