Chandrababu Naidu cleans up drain

Mr Naidu cleaned the drains along with Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu cleaned the drains at Prakashnagar here on Thursday.

After launching the Swachh Andhra Pradesh programme by garlanding the statue of N.T. Rama Rao, Mr Naidu cleaned the drains along with Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman. He interacted with residents and enquired about their problems.

However, all the drains are open without under ground drainage facility in city.

He also inquired about the maintenance of the sanitation and drainage by local authorities.

He later took part in Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru rally, from IBM College centre to MBS stadium in hot weather for nearly two hours.

Meannwhile, interacting with the pensioners in NTR Bharosa programme at MBS stadium, Mr Naidu said pensioners will be provided with mobile phones.

The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu said, garbage produced in the cities would be used for producing energy and wastewater management systems would be set up. He said schemes would be introduced to create wealth from waste. The CM added that in the first phase, toilets would be constructed in all schools in the state. Endowment funds would be utilized for service programmes including education. He also appealed to people to participate in the Janmabhoomi Maavuru programme that would be continued till October 20. He said a five-member committee would monitor the sanitation in each village. Union Minister of Commerce Ms Nirmala Sitharaman said that the central government was considering special category status to Andhra Pradesh and that the process was going on. She added that the BJP government was committed to the development of AP. Replying to a question on financial deficit and special category status, she said that there would be clarity on the issue after October 15. The Union minister also participated in a Swachh Andhra Pradesh programme organized here on the lines of Swachh Bharat programme, along with Mr Naidu.
