Rubber bitumen to be used extensively for roads

Though there is a provision in place for rubber bitumen tarring but it was being used only a limited way

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a decision aimed at helping the farmers who are reeling under crash in prices of rubber, Government on Wednesday directed public works department to use rubber modified bitumen extensively for road tarring and other works.

At the Cabinet briefing, chief minister Oommen Chandy said that BPCL would be asked to increase production of Rubber Modified Bitumen to meet the demand. “Though there is a provision in place for rubber bitumen tarring but it was being used only a limited way. Now we have decided to increase its use,’’ he added.

Road widening for National Games: The by pass road between Kazhakootam to Enchakkal to be made four lane in connection with National Games. Though the road is under NHAI , the chief minister said the widening work was being taken up on priority in view of the games.

Other decisions

Government LP School Karara in Palakkad will be upgraded to UP School. The 75-odd students studying in the school are tribals. Students have to walk 10 km to reach the nearest UP school and because of the distance many drop out fter 4th standard.

Kendriya Vidyala Kaduthuruthy approved 8 acres of land on lease. Services of 921 temporary staff engaged in monsoon related disease prevention activities extended up to March 31,2015.

Cabinet decides to raise the amount for purchase and house construction for people belonging to SC category. Extremely poor SC families will be granted 3.5 lakh for purchase of land and an equal amount for construction of houses.
