Mobile mammography unit for the first time in Coimbatore to screen women for breast cancer
Coimbatore: Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research (SRIOR) will launch a mobile mammography unit for the first time in Coimbatore to screen women for breast cancer.
This mobile unit will travel to the Nilgiris, Tirupur, Erode and Karur districts besides in and around Coimbatore where women will be screened through a mammogram free of cost. This unit will not only be engaged in screening, but also emphasise periodic check-ups for lumps or other abnormalities, said Dr P.Guhan, director, SRIOR.
A second initiative will be an extension of last year's awareness campaign, which will be the launch of an interactive Andriod application that will provide complete information on breast cancer. This application has now been brought out on the IOS platform to enable people to access all the facts in detail about breast cancer.
Thirdly, SRIOR will hold a signature campaign through which 2,500 NSS students will distribute 2 lakh pamphlets on breast cancer awareness to the public in the districts of Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Karur and Namakkal. Finally, SRIOR has announced free breast screening throughout October at the hospital from 10 am to 4 pm.
