Hyderabad Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain faces 7 cases

Of the 150 corporators in the city 41 are facing criminal charges

Hyderabad: Among Greater Hyderabad Municipal ward leaders, Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain has seven criminal cases against him, among them being charges of attempt to murder and rioting.

However, topping the list with the highest number of criminal cases is Raja Singh, the former BJP corporator of Mangalhat, who subsequently won Assembly elections and was elected MLA from Goshamahal.

Out of 43 AIMIM corporators, 16 have criminal cases against them. Md. Ghouse, the Shalibanda corporator of the MIM, has 10 cases against him, followed by Md. Mukram Ali of Moghalpura, from the same party, with seven cases.

Thirty-seven per cent of MIM corporators are facing charges. It can be recalled that AIMIM’s Akbaruddin Owaisi, the Chandray-angutta MLA, had the highest number of criminal cases (17) before the general elections.

At the municipal level too, the MIM’s score is high. In the Congress, out of 53 corporators, 13 are facing charges. Of the Telugu Desam’s 45 corporators, seven have cases against them. Three of the BJP’s six corporators are also facing cases.

On the whole, 27 per cent of GHMC corporators, that is 41 out of 150, have criminal cases pending against them. “About 28 criminal cases were transferred to the Central Crime Station where a Special Investigation Team has been constituted to investigate the nature of the alleged crime.

Some cases are pending investigation for more than two years. Transfer of cases to Central Crime Station is only to gain time and nothing is going to happen. Our entire exercise is to request political parties not to give tickets to persons with criminal records or facing criminal cases,” said Mr M. Padmanabha Reddy, the secretary of the Forum for Good Governance.
