Clean India campaign launched to clean the nation

Prime Minister Modi himself swept the streets of Valmiki Colony in Delhi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi sure knows how to involve people. His pet-project ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ launched to much fanfare as several celebs and other personalities hit the Web, propagating the need for a cleaner nation.

Armed with a broom, the Prime Minister himself swept the streets of Valmiki Colony in Delhi.

He also invited (or nominated) Mridula Sinha, Sachin Tendulkar, Baba Ramdev, Shashi Tharoor, Kamal Haasan, Priyanka Chopra and Anil Ambani to follow suit, similar to the recent ALS challenge on Facebook.

He also tweeted, “I invite the entire team of the popular TV show, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah to participate in the campaign.”

Participants now have to upload videos of themselves and then will have to nominate nine others. Actress Priyanka Chopra was the first one to accept the “challenge” as she responded to a dated image of her cleaning streets, that was tweeted by the PMO. “I accept. This is an idea that is long overdue,” she wrote on Twitter.

Next to accept was cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar. He uploaded a video saying, “Swachh Bharat hi Sach Bharat Hai (A clean India is the true India). Aao sab milkar haath badhaye (Let us all come together).”
