Central Administrative Tribunal: Conferred IAS selection is illegal

The state government to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 to each of the aggrieved candidates

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad bench of the Central Administrative Tribunal on Wednesday declared the selection process to conferred IAS cadre to the officers of the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh state for 2013 as illegal. A two-member bench comprising B. Venakateswara Rao (judicial) and Ranjana Chowdary, (administration), while allowing pleas by more than 25 aggrieved state-level officers working in various places of AP and Telangana, directed the governments to take the entire exercise afresh.

The bench slapped fine on the state government for not following the prescribed process and ruled in selection of conferred IAS officers, despite of repeated reminders from the tribunal in various cases. The bench directed the state government to pay a compensation of Rs 25,000 to each of the aggrieved candidates whose candidatures were illegally ignored and the money to recover from the errant department heads responsible for this fiasco.

In another plea by a person with disabilities pertaining to vision, the bench directed the state to follow the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court and give the disabled their lawful quota in the selections to IAS by promotions.
