Lord Malayappa takes ride on ‘Kalpavriksha’

Lord Venkateswara in the guise of Lord Krishna in the ‘Kalinga Mardanam’ pose
Tirumala: On Monday morning of the ongoing Brahmotsavam at Tirumala, riding atop the celestial golden ‘Kalpavriksha (tree of boons) Vahanam’ Lord Venkateswara showered boons on thousands of devotees who converged along the four Mada streets around the main temple on Monday.
Tastefully decorated with different ornaments and flowers, Lord Venkateswara in the guise of Lord Krishna in the ‘Kalinga Mardanam’ pose, flanked by his divine consorts bestowed their divine blessings on the countless devotees, as the procession of the ‘Kalpavriksha Vahanam’ inched through the four Mada streets.
According to the legends, Kalpavriksha was one of the elements that erupted when the Adisesha placed his vice-grip on the Mandara Mountain where the Devatas-Demons tried to steal the Amrutam (celestial liquid).
Srimad Bhagavatham says that all those who took shelter under Kalpavriksha will not go through starvation and poverty. Lord Venkateswara himself is hailed as a ‘Kalpavriksha’ as he blesses every devotee with boons sought by them.
Other celestial powers like the divine Kamadhenu and Chintamani also form part of the assemblage atop the vahanam. Later in the evening, Lord Malayappa Swamy stepped out of the Vahana Mandapam atop the Sarvabhupala Vahanam spreading the message that all the Dikpalakas (guardians of the eight cardinal directions) governing the universe are under his direct control and vigilance and the mankind prospers with timely rains.
Thousands of devotees took part in the festival on Monday and the fourth day festivities passed off smoothly without any untoward incidents.
