Andhra Pradesh to consult ASCI on capital

The consultant will prepare the master plan in six months

Vijayawada: The AP government has entrusted the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, with selecting an integrated project advisory and management consultant for development of the new capital. The consultant will prepare the master plan in six months.

“The capital region will be in the proposed Outer Ring Road of the Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali-Mangalagir Urban Development Authority area and the epicentre will be closer to Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and the Krishna river. Neerukonda and Thullur have been identified as the most suitable places to become the centre of the capital,” said a source in Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s camp.

The bypass road, now being developed by the National Highways Authority of India, is also passing close to this area. The NHAI project director, G. Sridhar, said, “The bypass road starts from Khaja and touches Venkatapalem on the Guntur side via Mangalagiri mandal. On the other side of the river it touches Gollapudi and then, via Nunna area, ends at Chinna Avutupalli near Gannagaram.”

Meanwhile,the Infrastructure Corporation of AP was asked to appoint an integrated project advisory and management consultant, a communication strategy consultant and a master plan consultant for construction of the capital city.

“INCAP has decided to entrust this assignment to ASCI, Hyderabad. The consultancy assignment period shall be for six months or till such time the design competition for selecting the concept master planner is over. The INCAP Vice-Chancellor and managing director will be the convener,” principal secretary Dr D. Samba Siva Rao stated in an order issued on Monday.

Principal secretaries of Finance, Municipal Administration, Industries and Law Department will be members of the committee to formulate guidelines and supervise the procurement process entrusted to ASCI. INCAP VC and MD will be the convener," stated principal secretary Dr D. Samba Siva Rao in an order issued on Monday.
