Left blasts Ramesh Chennithala for ‘murderer’ remark

Chennithala is behaving like a KSU leader

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Left leaders have slammed Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala for portraying CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan as someone with the mindset of a “murderer.” CPI state secretary Pannyan Raveendran said that as the Home Minister of the state, Mr Chennithala should not have made such remarks. “You can criticise people, but this statement is beyond criticism as it portrays a person as a criminal,’’ he said and added that Mr Chennithala should be aware that he was holding an important position.

The minister had accused Mr Pinarayi of protecting murderers and giving a clean chit to them. “The CPM is getting increasingly isolated among the people because of its politics of violence,’’ Mr Chennithala said and added that the Marxists had been pushed to the third position in Bengal. The CPM era has almost ended in the country,’’ he also posted on his Facebook page.

His post received sharp criticism from Left supporters, particularly CPM activists. “Chennithala is behaving like a KSU leader. He does not deserve to be the Home Minister,’’ they said. On Mr Chennithala’s remarks on the decimation of the CPM, another post said, “From 404 seats to 44, the Congress is going down the drains and soon it will be buried. Chennithala is functioning as the stooge of RSS and BJP.’’

“When an RSS goonda is killed, there is a CBI probe . But when CPM workers are hacked, there is no such probe, they are also human beings,’’ said a post accusing the Home Minister of selective targeting of Marxists.

“When RSS goons who came in search of a son killed his father in Anavoor, Chennithala didn’t utter a word. He is the ‘B’ team of assailants, who has stooped to the level of signing on the dotted lines of murderers,’’ alleged another post.
