Alia Bhatt speaks about her sartorial debut, and her personal sense of style
Mumbai: Last week, Karan Johar unveiled a line for a women’s fashion brand. Deepika Padukone, Malaika Arora Khan, Bipasha Basu and Shilpa Shetty have also in the past, lent their names to apparel brands.
The latest actor to join the fray is Alia Bhatt. Dressed in little black dress at the launch of her capsule collection for online fashion portal Jabong, the actress said that the line was “very personal” and truly inspired by her sense of style.
“It has a universal approach and can be worn by every woman irrespective of her age. It’s boho, chic and casual,” she said. Although as a hobby, fashion has always enticed the actress, she tells us. “I was always interested in fashion, but I guess I never understood the nuances of it,” she says, adding, “I think it’s when I started working on Student of the Year that I got involved in fashion because my character Shania was all about clothes and dressing up. Even now, I take my time to dress up while going out and enjoy the process. Sometimes I dress up even when I am staying in.”
Taking after her mentor Karan Johar in terms of fashion, can be a bit unnerving, she admits. Does she seek his validation? “Yes! I want him to like my collection. There are times when I walk into his office and he says, ‘Not happening’ and times he says, ‘This looks really nice on you’. His word means a lot to me.” Alia adds that her personal style is all about being casual, effortless and appreciating some minor imperfections.
