Gehlot distributes tricycles to challenged

Tirupati: Union minister for social justice and empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot distributed tricycles, wheelchairs and other support materials to the physically challenged at a programme organised here on Saturday.The programme was organised by the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, Kanpur, at the Tarakarama Stadium in Tirupati.
Mr Gehlot distributed tricycles and other support materials procured at a cost of Rs 3 crore to as many as 2,824 beneficiaries, who were physically challenged. The Central minister appreciated the efforts of the organisers and the civil society groups for their efforts in uplifting the lives of the physically challenged.
Meanwhile, state environment and forests minister Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy, who also took part in the distribution programme, said the state government on its part would begin the implementation of the pension scheme for the physically challenged from October 2. He added that the state government would pay a pension anywhere ranging from Rs1000 to Rs1500 to the physically challenged based on their extent of disability.
