BJP no to NCP ties, SP woos Congress

Congress on Friday targeted the NCP alleging that it was trying to “get close” to the BJP
New Delhi: A day after the break-up of alliances in Maharashtra, the BJP on Wednesday ruled out speculations rising over its post-poll alliance with the NCP, while the Congress moved ahead to align with the Samajwadi Party.
The Congress on Friday targeted the NCP alleging that it was trying to “get close” to the BJP.
“This is not surprising for us because we knew that over the past one and half to two months, NCP has been trying to get close to the BJP. We were prepared for this and we were already shortlisting candidates for all seats,” AICC general secretary Ajay Maken said.
Meanwhile according to news agency reports Samajwadi Party spokesman Abdul Qadir Chaudhary has said that Abu Asim Azmi, the state SP chief, met Prithviraj Chavan and Congress president Manikrao Thakare on Thursday night and decided to finalise the new alliance.
Asked about the reports about the Congress’ alliance with the SP, a party official close to Rahul Gandhi viewed, this would not be in the interest of the party.
