Advocates to boycott court today

AAB held a meeting to discuss the role of advocates in protecting the independence of judiciary

Bengaluru: The Advocates’ Association Bangalore (AAB) on Thursday unanimously resolved to abstain from attending courts on Friday in protest against the recent attacks against Supreme Court judge Justice H L Dattu, who is set to become the next Chief Justice of India, and Justice K L Manjunath, the sitting judge of Karnataka High Court. It also requested members of various bar associations in the state to join their protest.

AAB President K N Subba Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that the association held a general body meeting on Thursday to discuss the role of advocates in protecting the independence of judiciary. He said that some unknown persons were trying to malign the two judges - Justice Dattu and Justice Manjunath.

A group of Lok Sabha MPs, including four from Aam Aadmi Party, have initiated a signature campaign to impeach Justice Manjunath for his alleged involvement in disproportionate assets case. Mr Subba Reddy said that Justice Manjunath had already come clean on the allegations against him and he was being unnecessarily targeted.

Swamiji plea
The high court on Thursday reserved its order on the petition filed by Raghaveshwara Swamiji. He had approached the court seeking to quash the FIR filed against him by the city police.
