Students collect Rs45000 for flood-hit Kashmir

Students raised several doubts about the district’s capability of handling such situations
Alappuzha: Students of the Bright Land Discovery English Medium School have donated Rs45,000 to help rebuild flood- ravaged Kashmir.Usha Venkitesh, Principal, said the fund was handed over by a team of students to local MP K.C.Venugopal at a function held at the District Collector’s chamber the other day. “We appreciate the students’ efforts. Social responsibility is a key facet that we seek to inspire in our students. It’s really heartening to see this gesture of theirs”, said Usha.
The students raised several doubts during the meeting about the district’s capability of handling such situations if a disaster were to strike the place. “We raised the funds in one day. Our students enthusiastically took part in the initiative. We took it up with a view to inculcating social values in them”, said Usha, the self-taught educator.
Anna Francis, a student who met the District Collector, M.Padma Kumar, said she was happy to have been a part of the team. “When I asked the official what he would do if the district is hit by a disaster, he said the district had a well equipped disaster management wing which would rise to the occasion”. “I would like to thank everyone who contributed towards rebuilding the lives of Kashmir’s flood victims. I feel privileged to be part of the event”, said Anjaykrishna, other student.
