Kochi: The high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his chamber here on Wednesday decided to speed up work on the old and new bridges at Kalady and open the old bridge for traffic on October 5, after repair.
PWD Minister V.K.Ebrahim Kunju, Excise Minister K.Babu, Ernakulam District Collector M.G.Rajamanickam, MLAs, panchayat presidents concerned and representatives of various agencies attended the meeting.
The meeting gave in-principle nod for an alternative alignment to the parallel bridge’s approach road, as suggested by the CM. The meeting also asked the PWD to chart out a proposal for land acquisition and submit it. If necessary, land for the construction of the new bridge and the approach roads could be purchased through fast track, it was said.
As per the new alignment, the bypass will start from Thannipuzha on the Perumbavoor side and end at the airport road in Kalady, benefiting airport travellers as well. Ebrahim Kunju said the PWD would have to carry do a resurvey due to the new alignment.
