Bollywood hearthrob Varun Dhawan, cricketer Virat Kohli's star-struck moment

Mumbai: Both of them are popular with women, and both, have one thing in common. Football. One is a Bollywood actor, the other could have been one but is a cricketer instead. Varun Dhawan and Virat Kohli appeared in the same frame here on Tuesday and also revealed their star-struck side when they met legendary footballers Zico and Robert Pires and took their autograph.

“When I was coming for the event, my friends kept messaging me asking about Pires and Zico. We have grown up watching them and they were excited about the fact that I was meeting them,” said Varun.

He was, however, reluctant to label himself as the glamour quotient of FC Goa despite being one of the owners.

“You think I am glamour? If they wanted glamour, they would have got some hot women. I feel I am the entertainment factor for the Goa team. The place is anyway, an entertaining place, with beaches, people, food and football,” added Varun, who had also gone to catch a glimpse of Lionel Messi in Calcutta in 2011.

Talking about the selection of players, Varun said that he prefers fast, aggressive players who need to be intelligent too apart from being fit. Virat Kohli said he is a great fan of Cristiano Ronaldo but, “I am not loyal to any club. This is the first one I am trying to be loyal to,” he said.

The 25-year-old also believed that it is a big step for him to own stakes in a team at such a young age but he was happy that he would get to spend time with legendary footballers.

Was he expecting some recent stars in the ISL too? “Well, you definitely cannot have players from English Premier League and La Liga but if anybody who has the experience in the international level is on board, it is more than exciting,” said Kohli, whose last such moment came when he met Didier Drogba in New Delhi in the recent past.

Kohli is also hopeful that the Indian Super League (ISL) will bridge the gap between players across nations and pass on knowledge from the experienced to the youth.

“Similarly like we see in IPL, when a youngster is playing with Jacques Kallis and Sachin Tendulkar, his confidence is boosted and the same thing, here, can happen to footballers when they play with Nicolas Anelka and Robert Pires. It can only improve their game,” added Kohli, who had also gone to watch a few matches of the Indian football team in Delhi.

But how come football interested him all of a sudden? One may be surprised but this gentleman is thinking far beyond the normal.

“I am thinking about it as a business venture for the future. Cricket will not last forever,” said Kohli.
