A short film genius

Rajendra Vinod has made it a habit to pick up numerous international awards
Hyderabad: He has been a filmmaker for only a year but Rajendra Vinod from Hindupur is already the recipient of five international awards apart from national and regional awards for his short films. The 23-year-old says that the life of motivational speaker Nick Vujicic was instrumental in inspiring him.
Along with his teammates Praveen Sagar, Ravi Gowda, Pavan Kumar, Praveen Prem Kumar Pai, Ravi Kumar, Santosh Reddy, Paramesh Kalya and Tejaswi from Bengaluru, Vinod has started Aarvi Films.
The team has focused on sibling relationships in the short films As Far As and Payanam, tried comedy in Exam & Over Reaction, horror in the short fiction Fear, philosophy in Change and history in Lepakshi. Vinod has also made an ad film for Aarvi Films, which, along with Change and Lepakshi, brought him international accolades.
“We made all the films with minimal resources but with a lot of hard work,” he says.
“Often, I was disgusted with the things happening in my life, like my sister getting married when she was a minor, the sudden demise of my friend, etc. But, my constant reading of various spiritual and motivational books dragged me out of the whirlpool of my frustrations,” says Vinod who has never put education on the back-burner.
He received his B.Tech degree from BIT Institute of Technology, Hindupur, in 2011 and simultaneously acquired a psychology degree through a distance course. He has also cleared M.A. in journalism and mass communication and is now pursuing MSc. in multimedia Technology from Wiztoonz College of Media & Design, Bengaluru.
While Vinod is happy with accolades pouring in, he says that further maturity is needed to understand the creativity behind films. He adds that among his favorite movies are The Last Lear, Ship of Theseus and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. “I intend to do films like Gandhi in future and should stand in line for an Oscar,” adds a confident Vinod.
