Ministers at war ‘on the highway’

Since five years this road is riddled with huge potholes but no steps have been taken

Davangere: How many people should die and sustain injuries owing to the pathetic condition of the old Poona-Bengaluru state highway which passes through Davangere city?

Since five years this road is riddled with huge potholes but no steps have been taken to widen the road and asphalt it making motorists suffer from various health problems such as backache, asthma and eye problems due to the dust emanating from roads, said Ravi, a motorist.

Furthermore, the old PB road widening work has taken a backburner because of the contradictory stance taken by two ministers-district in-charge minister Mr Shamanur Shivashankarappa and union minister of state for civil aviation Mr G.M. Siddeshwar who is also MP for Davangere Lok Sabha segment.

Owing to bickering between the two ministers, the residents of Davangere city and the motorists are at the receiving end due to the bad condition of the road. Mr Shivashankarappa is interested in widening the road to 120-feet while union minister Mr. Siddeshwar is for widening it to 100 feet. Both ministers have failed to take a firm decision on widening this road on which thousands of people travel every day.
