30% rain deficit in Telangana State, Andhra Pradesh fares better

Telangana state is still facing a rain deficit despite good rains in the last couple of weeks
Hyderabad: Telangana state is still facing a rain deficit despite good rains in the last couple of weeks. However, deficiencies in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema have reduced.
Coastal AP still faces a 17 per cent deviation from the long period average and the deviation in Rayalaseema is 15 per cent.
Telangana however has recorded a 30 per cent deviation from normal rains.
Coastal AP recorded 435.5 mm actual rainfall, against the normal of 524.7 mm, Telangana recorded 493.7 mm, while the normal is 706.6 mm and Rayalaseema recorded 294.6 mm rainfall while the normal is 352 mm.
Meteorological department officials said that the figures had risen due to the good rains in last few weeks. “The huge deficit has almost been covered and this is a good sign,” said K Seetharam, a scientist with the Indian Meteorological Department. “We will be able to calculate the total deviation in the next couple of weeks,” he said.
