Vizag police plans to open land-grabber sheet

Cases related to real-estate crimes are steadily increasing
Visakhapatnam: Police officers have been receiving complaints about land grabbing, and the city police are coming up with land-grabber sheet, similar to that of rowdy-sheeter, to tackle land-grabbing, a frequently reported crime in their jurisdictions.
With Vizag gaining prominence in the wake of bifurcation of the state, cases related to real-estate crimes are also steadily increasing and majority of police stations are flooded with the complaints on the rights over land, real estate ventures and buildings.
Deputy commissioner of police (Law and Order, South Zone), Dr G. Ramgopal Naik, said they are receiving a number of complaints involving disputes related to land after values of land at various parts in the city increased due to various reasons.
“We have started verifying the records of persons, including builders, real-estate firm businessmen, few second rung politicians and few others indulging in land grabbing, to open land-grabber sheets against them, to keep tab on them to provide relief to the genuine owners. After verification of the records, we will open the rowdy sheeters against those indulged in land grabbing,” he added.
Police sources said that in the absence of regular city police chief, for past few months, there is lack of co-ordination among police personnel. Some police officers (inspector and sub-inspector rank policemen) have been involving in civil cases just to support few realtors and builders. Selling the same land and flats to multiple buyers, circulation of forged documents, grabbing the land of genuine owners settled in other cities, are on the rise.
There are allegations that some inspector rank officers are supporting land mafia and all police officers have been instructed to follow the standard operation procedure while dealing with real-estate related case. If any police officer directly and indirectly deviates from the land-related case, we will initiate action against them after an inquiry, said commissioner of police (in-charge), Atul Singh.
