Khammam: The failure of the Telangana state government to release the fee reimbursement money is now adversely impacting the lives of lecturers working in private colleges, as they are not getting their salaries for the last three months.
About 70,000 students studying in engineering, degree and intermediate colleges in Khammam district had been getting their fee reimbursed by the government for the last six years. However, the government has delayed release of about '90 crore for the academic year 2013-14 to the students from the district in the form of fee reimbursement.
P. Hemalatha, who teaches computer science in a private engineering college, said that she has not received her salary for the last three months.
“The management says that it is due to the fee reimbursement money being blocked,” she said.
When asked, K, Srinivasa Rao, managing partner of a private degree college, said that the managements were afraid of asking for money after the experience faced by some engineering colleges. Another principal, on condition of anonymity, said that all the engineering colleges have been raided by task force teams after they asked for fee reimbursement.
“After this, the managements of the other colleges prefer maintaining silence over the issue,” he said.
