Mumbai: She’s known for her collection of gorgeous Kanjeevaram saris and heavy ethnic jewellery.
But the evergreen Rekha has slipped into a modern avatar for a song sequence in her upcoming film Super Nani.
Sources from the sets shared that a chic black evening gown with a thigh-high slit was specially created for the actress, complete with edgy, Gothic accessories.
“When the concept was shared with Rekhaji, she was immediately game to try on the look. She was very excited about the look that was put together for her and to try out the dance routine,” our source said.
We also learnt that this is just one of the many sexy avatars the veteran actress will be sporting in the song-and-dance number.
“The team has replicated a number of iconic looks of yesteryear divas for Rekhaji: There is Helen’s famous ‘cabaret’ style and the ‘tawaif’ look made popular by Madhubala (in the song Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya) that Rekhaji will be recreating in the track,” our source said.
The song, which has been described as a “fun number” will be filmed on Madame Re and her co-actor Sharman Joshi. It has been choreographed by Shabina Khan.
“The song fits right in with Super Nani’s message to all women — which is that their power lies within themselves, and all they need to do is discover it, and use it,” a member of the production house told us.
Super Nani is being touted as Rekha’s “comeback” to mainstream cinema.
Fans may recall that Madame Re had previously portrayed a sultry nightclub singer in the Vidya Balan-starrer Parineeta.
